Weight Management for Pets

Help your pet maintain a healthy weight with our weight management program.

Those extra pounds on your pet can make them the best hugging buddies. However, extra weight can hamper your pet's health and shorten their life. Being overweight can put them at risk of developing fatal diseases that affect the kidneys and heart. We can help assess if your dog is overweight and help implement a safe plan for weight loss. It can be done with a specialized diet plan, exercise suggestions, and more!

How do I know if my dog or cat is overweight?

A dog or cat is considered overweight when they have more than 25% body fat. Our medical staff can evaluate your pet and compare their ideal weight to their current weight. Some common signs of obesity may include ribs that are not prominent or hard to feel, no abdominal tuck (waist), loose or distended abdomen, or even a fat pad at the tail base and abdomen.

Are some dog breeds more prone to obesity?

Yes, all breeds have the potential to become obese, but some common breeds that are more prone to obesity include Beagles, Labrador Retrievers, and Pugs, to name a few. These breeds can require extra care and consideration to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How can I help my cat lose weight?

The best way to help them reduce weight is through a nutritional diet rather than exercise. There are different specialized diets that you can select for your pet to help them with weight loss and maintenance. Our veterinary team can help determine the most suitable diet for your cat.
